Firetrucks sport pink, participate in parade for cancer awareness

EAST MOLINE -- A parade of pink firetrucks will be in town today to raise cancer awareness.

The Pink Heals Tour is a national nonprofit trying to raise awareness about women's health issues, particularly cancer.

The event is expected to start with a short parade at noon involving the pink trucks, along with more conventionally colored counterparts from the East Moline Fire Department, as well as vehicles from other local fire departments, police departments and ambulance services, said Sean Genung, an East Moline firefighter.

They will stop in the Station 23 parking lot, 901 Avenue of the Cities, as well as another nearby lot, and will be there until 7 p.m., Mr. Genung said.Volunteers in pink firefighting gear will be on hand, and merchandise will be available for purchase, Mr. Genung said.

Refreshments will not be provided, and people should be prepared for the weather, he said.
